Route 4 (linear)

Mylopota Beach - Klima Beach

This linear route (you will need to return to your starting point through the same route, so calculate twice the time and kilometers) connects the busy beach of Mylopotas with the quiet beach of Klima. You can also make a short detour and visit Saponochoma beach. The special interest of this route is not only the quiet and impressive natural beauty of the beaches. During your tour you will admire the landscape revealing its geological heritage, which is a laboratory depicting the rock transformation processes. Observe the effects of the intensity of the Earth’s forces and high temperatures on the flow of geological formations. And for those of you who want to know, their names are Ophthalmognesioi and Leukogranites!

Tours to Ios will reveal the natural and cultural heritage of the island. It is reminded that the use of the Hiking Network is at your own risk and please observe the rules for preserving nature!

USEFUL INFORMATION ON HIKING

Clothes vary depending on the season, the duration of the journey and the type of ground along each route. During the walk clothes should be very light especially during the summer months when the temperature is high.
Clothes should be light-colored so that they are easily located in case of accident. In spring and autumn, warmer clothes (windbreaker-fleece) are used only during stops and rarely during hiking. Hiking in Ios is also possible in winter with a high probability of rain and wind. There should always be a raincoat in your bag for these seasons!

On most routes the simple trekking shoes with flexible soles are suitable for summer and for walks up to 2-3 hours. For those who want more safety, the semi-rigid boots that cover the ankles are recommended and are suitable all year round and for long walks.
Sunglasses, a hat with a visor or a neck cover, sunscreen, long pants and a walking stick complete the equipment. Also, it is best not to walk alone first and secondly in the noon and afternoon hours during the summer months. Always have a first aid kit and a headlamp with you. Plenty of water and a charged cell phone are definitely a must!
